The Chester County Sports Hall of Fame will honor the 1970 Avon Grove High School Boys Basketball State Champion Team with special recognition at the November 14th banquet. LEON BELL: Basketball

Leon Bell began his sports career playing basketball in the West Chester School District in 1967 at North Junior High School. He continued at Henderson High School from 1968-1970 under the coaching of Jack McClellan. Bell’s basketball ability became evident as he played varsity basketball for three years. HANK BERNAT: Football
Class of 2015

Hank Bernat is a locally recognized, highly decorated high school football coach. He was an assistant football coach with Lew Buckwalter from 1955-1959 at Owen J. PAUL CHENGER: Baseball
Class of 2015

Paul Chenger began his illustrious baseball career on the playing fields of Coatesville. While in high school Paul was an outstanding three sport athlete. Baseball however was his passion. BEN DAVIS: Baseball
Class of 2015

Ben Davis burst onto the baseball scene in Chester County as a catcher for Malvern Prep, hitting .507 as a senior in 1995 with four doubles, seven triples, six home runs and 37 RBI. SCOTT GOLD: Wrestling
Class of 2015

Scott Gold is one of the most successful high school wrestling coaches in Chester County, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Class of 2015

Edwin W. Lawrence, “Easy Eddie” as he was called as a local high school pitching Legend here in Chester County. Local Folklore had “Easy Eddie” striking out 127 batters in 69 innings his senior year at T.E. High School (now Conestoga).

Jack McClellan graduated from Shippensburg State College after WW II. He received several awards during his service including the Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation. Class of 2015

Joe Senser was a very special athlete who played at West Chester University. A 1979 graduate who played tight end for the Golden Rams, he led the team in receptions for four straight years with and average of 14 yards per catch. Dr. Neil Serpico was a major force in Chester County in promoting baseball at all levels. During 20 years of Coaching West Chester University as an Assistant Coach (1968-71) and Head Coach (1971-87) Serpico reached out to the community of West Chester and operated numerous camps and clinics for young people. Charles Frederick (Chuck) Weber, Jr., had a professional football playing and coaching career of 29 years. Chuck's football career began at nearby Abington High School.
