Dr. Neil Serpico was a major force in Chester County in promoting baseball at all levels. During a 20 year time period of Coaching West Chester University as an Assistant Coach (1968-71) and Head Coach (1971-87) Coach Serpico reached out to the community of West Chester and operated numerous camps and clinics for young people. His passion for baseball was contagious. He was instrumental in raising thousands of dollars for baseball scholarships during his tenure at West Chester University. He was also an outstanding teacher in the Kinesiology Department. His Coaching and Administration of Athletics classes helped prepare future coaches and teachers to start their careers. He was a mentor, teacher, and friend to all that knew and were taught by him. He was the Baseball Head Coach at West Chester University for 17 years (1971-87) and held the all time record: 291-239-5(second all-time winningest head coach in school history). He had a .554 career winning percentage coaching the Golden Rams baseball team, mostly during the Division 1 era. 14 players that he coached were drafted in the MLB Entry Draft, including Pat Kelly, who reached the major leagues with the New York Yankees. Coach Serpico led WCU to the 1986 PSAC Championship and to the NCAA Division II Tournament twice (1983, 1986). Serpico Stadium at West Chester University was dedicated in his memory on Sept. 17, 1989. As a young man, Neil Serpico played Minor League Baseball in the Atlanta Braves organization.
