Coaching • Oxford

Scott Gold is one of the most successful high school wrestling coaches in Chester County, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. When he did not make the ninth grade basketball team at Warrior Run High School, Gold joined the wrestling team and began a life-long love for the sport. Following graduation from Penn State University (1966) Gold embarked on forty-four years of coaching (thirty-eight as head coach) at Oxford High School where he has won 425 matches. His wrestling teams have captured eleven District One team championships, eighteen league titles, and seventeen Christmas Tournament team championships. He has coached two individual state champions, eleven state place winners, fifty-two state qualifiers, sixty-nine District One champions, ten Southeast Regional champions, and nineteen wrestlers with one-hundred or more career wins. For his achievements Gold was voted Coach of the Year several times: District One (eight), and Southern Chester County League (fifteen). He is a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Oxford High School Hall of Fame. In addition to coaching he served eight terms as President of the District One Coaches Association, and for thirty years was a member of District One Steering Committee. Although retired from teaching in the Oxford school district (2003), he continues to coach and nurture the wrestling program. Gold’s success is marked by his love and enthusiasm for the sport, and the individual attention and positive reinforcement he gives each of his wrestlers. His commitment to the athletes under his tutelage goes beyond amassing a successful coaching record. He has had a positive influence on the lives of hundreds of young wrestlers who have participated in his Oxford programs.
In addition to wrestling, Gold is a Modified Softball pitcher for whom the number five is important: he pitched on five state championship and five Oxford league championship teams, and was voted most valuable pitcher five times. He resides in Oxford, PA with his wife Susan.
