Harry Lewis, Jr., who grew up attending Coatesville area schools, was a star athlete in track during his years at Coatesville’s Scott High School. Following his graduation from high school in 1959, Harry ventured south to Winston-Salem University (N.C.). While a student-athlete, Lewis was a member of the track team and garnered national recognition as one of the runners on the shuttle relay champions of America. He earned a degree in Administration from Cheyney State (now Cheyney University) and a Master’s Degree in Wellness and Fitness from West Chester State (now West Chester University). Harry was a teacher and an administrator for 41 years. Lewis retired as Principal of Coatesville Area Senior High School in 2006. Prior to becoming the principal at Coatesville, he was a Special Education teacher, a Physical Education teacher, Track Coach and Assistant Principal. During his years as the Track Coach at Coatesville, Harry produced 15 undefeated seasons, posted a record of 174 wins and 17 losses, and mentored 22 All-American High School and Penn Relay championship athletes. Additionally, Lewis coached 23 Ches-Mont team championships as well as securing a state championship team title. He is a member of the Coatesville Sports Hall of Fame and is the recipient of numerous community awards. Among his many activities, Harry is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Brandywine Health Foundation, and is a Penn Relays High School Referee.
