A graduate of Slippery Rock University, Rosalyn “Lynn” Greenlee received her Master’s degree from West Chester. During this time, Lynn taught and coached both Field Hockey and Basketball in a few school districts, including Oxford. Greenlee then arrived on the scene at Coatesville in 1964.
Lynn’s main objective as a teacher and coach was to provide opportunities for girls in Coatesville High School and the community. Her dedication to developing a strong athletic program for the girls of Coatesville still resonates today. Greenlee was a pioneer in scholastic athletics in Coatesville and throughout Pennsylvania. For 45 years, Lynn was a coach and mentor to hundreds of athletes and helped establish girls’ sports and activities for the school and the community.
In Coatesville, Greenlee first taught and coached at Scott High School-where she coached Field Hockey, Swimming, and was the first head coach of the 9th Grade Softball Team for Coatesville. A highlight for Lynn was the 6th place finish in the Pennsylvania State 50-Meter Freestyle by one of her swimmers, Cyndy Sherota. Greenlee also organized and directed Synchronized Community Swimming Shows for the Coatesville Dolphins.
Lynn started the Girls’ Cross Country Team at Coatesville High School with the help of Boy’s Coach, Bill Renfrow. Her teams claimed the Ches-Mont League Cross Country Championship three years in a row. Lynn also served as a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Board Member and played a part in the establishment of the first PIAA State Cross Country Championship for Girls. Greenlee then worked to create the Girls’ Track and Field Team at Coatesville. As Head Coach, her teams again won multiple Ches-Mont League Track and Field Championships. Lynn also coordinated and ran a Cross Country training program called “Camp Huff’n Puff.”
During her years at Coatesville, Greenlee also co-sponsored a Bible Club-where monthly “Swim and Gym” nights for 9th through 12th grade students were held. Once she retired, Lynn became a BCM missionary with Rest Ministries and spent seven years working with abused, addicted and hurting women. Her ministry included weekly visits to the Chester County Prison for Bible study and singing. Lynn also initiated a Bible study in the Coatesville public housing projects.
Greenlee had a remarkable career teaching, coaching, supporting and mentoring girls and women in Chester County. For her outstanding achievements as a coach in Swimming, Track and Cross Country, Lynn was inducted as a member of the Coatesville High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
