Julie's athletic accomplishments began at Great Valley High School where she was a four-year varsity athlete in field hockey and lacrosse. She was a team captain when the Patriots captured the lacrosse league championship in 1974 and 1975. She was the team MVP in 1973, 1974 and 1975. At GVHS, she was also captain and MVP of the 1975 field hockey team and was named GVHS Outstanding Female Athlete.

At James Madison University, Julie competed on the varsity field hockey and lacrosse teams all four years. She was co-captain in 1978 when JMU was the lacrosse conference champion as well as the Virginia champion. Also, she was JMU’s MVP and captain of the field hockey team. In 1979, she won the JMU Female Leadership Award and was inducted into the JMU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.

Post- college, Julie's lacrosse career continued, playing for the Philadelphia Club and the Philadelphia National Tournament Team from 1979-1986. Julie played for the US National Team in 1981, 1983, 1985 and 1986. ln 1981 she was on the US Lacrosse Touring Team in Australia where they won the Best of Five test matches. ln 1982, she was on the US Women's Lacrosse World Cup Team which won the Gold Medal, and in 1986, she captained the US Women's Lacrosse World Cup team to the Silver Medal.
