Robert Morse
Basketball • Kennett Square

Bob Morse was an excellent basketball player at Kennett High School. The 6’8” power forward and prolific shooter entered the University of Pennsylvania and became part of what many consider the best years in the Penn Quakers long basketball history. For three seasons (1970-1972) the Quakers were 78-6 under Coach Dick Harter of Pottstown as Bob led his team in scoring with a total of 1381 points. He received the Spoon Award as Penn’s outstanding Senior student-athlete (1972), and is a member of the Big Five Hall of Fame (1977) and University of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame (1996).

Bob was drafted in the third round by the NBA’s Buffalo Braves (Los Angeles Clippers) but opted to play in Europe. He played nine seasons in Varese, Italy, two years in Antibes, France and two years in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Bob led the Italian league six times in scoring and in 11 seasons averaged 27.8 points & 8.9 rebounds per game. He was a great shooter: from the field 60.8%, free throws 85.9%, & three-pointers 54.5%. He retired in 1986 at the age of 35.

Following numerous business and sports-related ventures he decided on teaching. He earned an MA in Italian from UVA and taught Italian at St Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana until his retirement in 2016. He and his wife Elizabeth reside in Portland, Oregon.
