Dan Cornwell was born in West Chester on September 19, 1934 and attended West Chester schools and later The Haverford School, graduating in 1952. While at Haverford he was a very successful diver and finished third in the scholastic championships. He then spent a year at Andover where he started his swimming career.

Dan went to Yale University when Yale was the swimming power of the country. They were the National Champions two years while he was there. Dan was a versatile swimmer and swam the Individual Medley with great success. He was part of the Yale Medley Relay Team that set a national record in 1956 and the 4 x 100 relay team that set a similar record in 1956 and 1957 and was chosen to be on the All American Swimming team...

Dan was a very versatile athlete and competitor and played squash in his 30’s and 40’s, rising to national championship level for his age brackets. He played for the national senior’s doubles championship but ended up as runner up.

Dan was extremely competitive in everything and players always could tell when Dan had been on the court because there was blood from him diving and sliding to make shots.

Dan was honored to be invited to be a member of the Jesters, an international organization of only a couple of thousand athletes, that recognizes players in several racquet sports and rugby. He also had a 3 handicap at Merion Golf Club. Dan died in 2011.
