Nakeya Crutchfield graduated from Coatesville Area High School (1998) following an outstanding academic and athletic career.
A member of the 1995 District I girl’s basketball championship team, track and field was her strength. She was undefeated in Ches-Mont competition in the 100 and 200 meters for four years. Crutchfield medalled in the District I and PIAA State Championships her Freshman and Sophomore years, and was the 100 meter District One and PIAA champion her Junior year (1997).
As a senior she won both the 100 and 200 meter championships at districts and states posting top ten national times in both events. For her accomplishments Nakeya was named the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily Local News female Track Athlete of the Year (1998), and received the Hugh V. McDevitt Award.
Her track career continued at Florida State University where she was a member of the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Outdoor Championship team. In 2002 she was the ACC 200 meter outdoor champion, and ran on the 4X100 meter championship team. Nakeya ended her career at FSU among the top ten all-time fastest 200 meter sprinters.
She earned a Master of Science degree in physical therapy (2004) and works at the Coatesville Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center as a physical therapist. Nakeya and her husband, Michael, currently reside in Coatesville.
