Tora Suber is nominated for her outstanding career as a basketball player at Downingtown High School (1989-1993), University of Virginia (1993-1997), and Charlotte Sting (1997-1999) and Orlando Miracle (1999-2000) of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Suber was a four-year starter on the Downingtown High School girls basketball team that won four District 1 and two AAAA State Championships, and was AAAA Eastern State runner-up. During her career she scored 2,420 points (including 190 3-point field goals), had 490 steals, and made 443 assists. For her stellar high school play she was the Gatorade and USA Today Player of the Year for Pennsylvania (1993), Nike All-American, and Parade Magazine 3rd Team All-American (1993). Suber was recognized as the 1993 Philadelphia Inquirer All-Southeastern and All-Area player of the year, and Daily Local News Player of the Year. She was chosen by the Philadelphia Inquirer as the Female Athlete of the 1990s for Chester County (1999). A four-year starting guard at the University of Virginia (1993-1997) her teams compiled a 103-25 record. During that span the Cavaliers won three straight ACC regular-season championships, appeared in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments, and had back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Elite Eight. Tora is the all-time leader in 3-point field goals made (220), and is ranked in the top ten in five other categories. She graduated in 1997 with a degree in English. Suber received several awards during her college career beginning with the ACC Rookie of the Year (1994). By the time she graduated she was named a Naismith Finalist (1997), and was Basketball Weekly All-American first team, AP Honorable Mention All-American, and two-time ACC first team selection. She was recently named an ACC Women’s Basketball Legend (2016) in recognition of her outstanding Virginia career. The seventh overall pick in the first round of the 1997 WNBA draft by the Charlotte Sting, Suber retired in 2000 following three seasons of play. She currently resides in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
