Ed Malikowski, a native of Kingston (PA), graduated from Kingston High School in 1945, and spent two years in the Navy before enrolling at West Chester State Teacher’s College (now West Chester University). While at WCSTC, Malikowski earned an incredible total of 12 Varsity Letters. In four years on the basketball team, Ed was selected Small College Player of the Year as a sophomore, and as a junior was the second leading scorer on a team that went 17-2. A four-year letterman on the track team at WCSTC, his events included the quarter-mile, the half- mile and the mile. In his senior year, Malikowski anchored the relay team. Additionally, Ed also ran cross country for four years and captained the team his senior year. During two of those years, the team was unbeaten. He also competed in the Penn Relays and was a medalist on several occasions. Upon graduation from West Chester State in 1951, Malikowski began his coaching career as the Basketball Coach at Tredyfferin-Eastown High School. Ed then went to West Chester High School where he was an assistant basketball coach for several years. He also became the Head Track & Cross-Country Coach at West Chester High. After putting away his clipboard as a coach, Malikowski moved onto administration and served as West Chester High’s Athletic Director for five years. From that point until his retirement in 1985, Ed served as the West Chester School District’s Supervisor of Physical Education and Athletics. Furthermore, he was one of three individuals who started Brian’s Run (which is still in existence today). Malikowski also helped start the Emil Messikomer Scholarship Endowment for worthy high school players. Ed was inducted into the West Chester University Basketball Hall of Fame in 1988 and into the Ches-Mont League Hall of Fame in 2010.
