Bannan was an all-around great athlete. Jerry played and excelled in many
sports including football, basketball, and baseball. In the early 1950s, he
excelled in basketball, graduating from St. Agnes. Bannan played semi-pro
football for the Kennett Square Tuffies. Jerry also found time to coach youth
sports - he was among the founders of the Little All-American Football
Association. Bannan was an outstanding Referee. He began his officiating
career in the CYO, high school and collegiate basketball. It did not end there
however, because In 1969, he was hired to officiate in the NBA. Bannan
officiated in both the NBA and the ABA (American Basketball League) until
1976. Jerry died on October 13th 2011.
