Michael William Grady was born December 23, 1869 in Kennett Square, and
was one of the first players from Chester County to play Major League Baseball.
Before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, he played in the Brandywine AA
League of West Chester. He played for the Phillies from 1894-1897, the Cardinals
in 1897, the New York Giants from 1898-1900, the Washington Senators in 1901,
and the Cardinals again from 1904-1906. Grady was an exceptional hitter, compiling
a .294 career average over his 11 major league seasons.
