The University of Delaware pitching prospect signed with Philadelphia
Phillies in 1956. After a seven-year career in the Major Leagues,
he managed in the Phils farm system. In August of 1979, he was
named Phillies manager, and a year later, led the team to its first-ever
World Series championship. In 1998, he was named senior advisor
to the general manager of the Phillies. Managerial record: 454ˆ478
