Hall of Fame pitcher. Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Broke into the big leagues with the A's at age 18. Played alongside such immortals as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig during his sensational career with the Yankees. Finished his career with 240 -162 record, with 1,227 strikeouts, an ERA of 3.60 and 35 shutouts. Was named general manager of the Phillies in 1944, a post he held until his death on Jan. 30, 1948. A few weeks later, Herb Pennock, The Squire of Kennett Square, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y..
