Kenneth Glah
Triathlete • West Chester

Kenneth Glah has been nominated for his outstanding achievements as a triathlete. He is the 12th child in a family of 13. He is the youngest brother. Four of Ken's older brothers were runners, 3 serious runners. In the 6th grade, Ken competed with his older sister Rose in his first Jr. only National Championship in Houston, Texas, wearing a pair of jeans with running shorts and Chuck Taylor converse high top sneakers. Ken started high school at Bishop Shanahan but they did not have a track program so he ran independently his first couple high school years. He later transferred to East High School, where he ran Track and Cross Country. While at East, he competed in state championships, and he graduated in 1981. He went to Penn State, but made the decision in 1983 to leave school and concentrate on his triathlon career. In 1984 and ’85, he won the Liberty to Liberty Triathlon. This race began with a swim around the Statue of Liberty, then a one hundred mile bike ride to Philadelphia with a run finishing at the Liberty Bell. Ken has competed in more than 70 Ironman events in his career, and celebrated his 32nd consecutive start at an Ironman World Championships in Kailua Kona, HI in 2015. Ken qualified for his first World championship Ironman race in Kona in 1983. To note: he just qualified in Brazil on May 29, 2016 for his 33rd consecutive world championship, a record no one comes close to in the sport. His best finish at IM World Championships was 3rd in 1988, and he raced to 9 additional top 10 finishes there. Glah is a 6-time IM Champion, claiming victory at IM Brazil in 1998, ‘99, and 2000, IM New Zealand in 1992 and ’93, and IM Canada in 1993. In addition to his accomplishments at IM Distance, Ken has won national and world titles in short and long-course events. In 2002, he founded Endurance Sports Travel, providing support to athletes, their friends and families at 28 worldwide locations. In January 2016, Glah was inducted into the USAT Hall of Fame.
