Dennis White is a native, lifelong resident of Chester County, where he was raised, educated and excelled as an athlete, and served as an exceptional High School Teacher, Coach, and Athletic Director. In retirement, he functions on a myriad of community organizations and as a Director on the CCSHOF Board. White distinguished himself for 36 years serving as a Teacher, Coach and Director of Athletics in the Unionville School District. While at Unionville, Dennis coached Baseball and Football and had an illustrious career as the Head Coach of Women’s Basketball for 32 years. As Women’s Basketball Coach, he was named “Coach of the Year” numerous times as his team won 489 games, 5 District Titles, participated in 11 PIAA State playoff tournaments and won 15 league titles. Upon retirement from Unionville, White was named Teacher of the Year and the new gymnasiumwas named in his honor. Following high school, Dennis attended Cheyney and West Chester Universities. At Cheyney, he played on teams that captured the 1968-69 PSAC Men’s Basketball Title and participated in the NCAA post-season tournament. White then transferred to West Chester seeking a teaching degree in Health and Physical Education. At WCU, Dennis was an outstanding player in Basketball, while recording records in Shot Blocking and Rebounds and subsequently was named to the WCU Hall of Fame. In his career at WCU, he averaged a record-setting 10 rebounds per game. While graduating with a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation at WCU, White also served in the Platoon Leaders Class of the United States Marine Corps. Dennis is a graduate of Avon Grove High School excelling in Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball and Track - where he led the team in the sprints and jumps in the Southern Chester County Championships. In his senior year, White was named Outstanding Senior Athlete. Dennis was fortunate to coach two High School All-Americans: Peyton Black, who went on to play for Duke; and Amanda Brown, who went on to play at Penn State. Coach White directed his own basketball camp from 1985-2004, and gained valuable experience as part of the staff at the John Chaney/Sonny Hill Basketball Summer Camp for six years. An active member of his community, Dennis functions as a Steward at St Luke’s Church in West Chester and is an annual contributor to the West Chester YMCA Good Kids Campaign.
